{"id":195,"date":"2011-08-24T20:12:10","date_gmt":"2011-08-24T20:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.unileon.es\/amoreno\/?p=195"},"modified":"2012-10-15T21:18:53","modified_gmt":"2012-10-15T21:18:53","slug":"eneida-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.unileon.es\/amoreno\/?p=195","title":{"rendered":"ENEIDA Research Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2008\u00a0Ana Moreno initiated discussions\u00a0with researchers with\u00a0supplementary and\/or similar research concerns from another four Spanish\u00a0institutions (Jes\u00fas Rey Rocha and Ram\u00f3n Rodr\u00edguez from the CSIC, Sally Burgess and Pedro Mart\u00edn from Universidad de La Laguna, M\u00aa Lluisa Gea Valor from Jaume I Universitat and Rosa Lor\u00e9s, Pilar Mur and Enrique Lafuente from the Universidad de Zaragoza) and with expert consultants from three foreign universities (John Swales from The University of Michigan, Itesh Sachdev from The University of London and Theresa Lillis from the Open University) to\u00a0collaborate in a\u00a0large-scale\u00a0research project. By bringing this multidisciplinary team of researchers together,\u00a0she has taken a step towards making connections between fields, theories and research methods whose results\u00a0she believes\u00a0will fruitfully contribute to helping Spanish researchers enhance their academic writing skills for research publication purposes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2010 Ana Moreno set up an interuniversity research group called ENEIDA (Spanish Team for Intercultural Studies on Academic Discourse), based at the University of Le\u00f3n, to formalize the interdisciplinary research collaborations established among this team of researchers (http:\/\/<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/10612\/1824\">hdl.handle.net\/10612\/1824<\/a> [25\/07\/2012]).\u00a0A website for this newly created research group is under construction.\u00a0The team\u2019s first joint research project is entitled <em>Rhetorical Strategies to Get Published in International Scientific Journals from a Spanish-English Intercultural Perspective (I)<\/em>,\u00a0which has been funded by the Spanish National Plan for R+D+i (2010-2012). As the Principal Investigator of this project, one of\u00a0Ana Moreno\u2019s research\u00a0responsibilities has been to coordinate the analysis of Spanish researchers\u2019 needs vis-\u00e0-vis training in writing in English for research publication purposes, one main aim of Phase 1 of the project (http:\/\/<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/10612\/1823 \">hdl.handle.net\/10612\/1823<\/a> [25\/07\/2012]).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unileon.es\/amoreno\/files\/2011\/08\/Hasta-agosto-2011-030.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.unileon.es\/amoreno\/files\/2011\/08\/Hasta-agosto-2011-030-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Working in close collaboration, Ana Moreno, Jes\u00fas Rey, Sally Burgess (assisted by Irene L\u00f3pez,\u00a0our technician for phase 1, and advised by Itesh Sachdev, our expert consultant for phase 1, designed an online survey with various aims in mind: mainly, to identify the scientific fields where the need for training in writing for research publication purposes is greatest in order\u00a0to carry out relevant needs analyses, to provide large-scale data for follow-up studies on factors affecting writing and learning to write English for research publication purposes, and to assess the relevance and viability in\u00a0given scientific fields\u00a0of the\u00a0intercultural and crosscultural studies\u00a0planned for the next phases of the project, which\u00a0Ana Moreno is also coordinating.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unileon.es\/amoreno\/files\/2011\/08\/PANEL-DISCUSSION-PHOTO-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.unileon.es\/amoreno\/files\/2011\/08\/PANEL-DISCUSSION-PHOTO-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The online\u00a0survey was launched at the end of 2010\u00a0among a population of 8794\u00a0doctors\u00a0affiliated to\u00a0the five Spanish institutions participating in the project. This was done\u00a0thanks to the kind collaboration of the five institutions and\u00a0of the\u00a0team\u00a0members\u00a0at each of the institutions. The survey was successfully completed by 1717 informants, to whom the team is\u00a0very grateful. Descriptive results from this survey have already been presented at various national and international conferences and have been published as working documents (https:\/\/<a href=\"http:\/\/buleria.unileon.es\/handle\/10612\/1757\">buleria.unileon.es\/handle\/10612\/1757<\/a>\u00a0[06\/06\/12]).\u00a0Various research articles are being written up by team members from the five institutions to disseminate results from analysing the questionnaire data through relevant scientific journals, the first of which has been published in <em>Ib\u00e9rica<\/em> (http:\/\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aelfe.org\/documents\/13_24_Moreno.pdf\">www.aelfe.org\/documents\/13_24_Moreno.pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ENEIDA Reseach Group met\u00a0in September 2012 to coordinate actions for Phase 2 of the project, in which a number of crosscultural studies of research articles across English and Castilian Spanish will be carried out.
